Metropolitan Police

One of the world’s best known and most respected police services, the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) exists to make London a safer place for the millions of people who live and work in the capital, and the millions more who visit every year. The 47,000 men and women who serve the needs of Londoners as either front line officers or police staff are ordinary people whose commitment, integrity and sense of purpose enable them to provide an extraordinary service, day-in, day-out.

The Metropolitan Police Service is the largest in the world, covers an area of some 620 square miles and is responsible for the safety of 7.2 million people. London is a uniquely diverse collection of vibrant communities and we are committed to creating a police service that fully reflects the ethnic and cultural profile of the population. That’s why it’s essential that all applicants must have a genuine respect for diversity together with the sensitivity to work effectively with London’s many different communities.
